I have worked as a counselling supervisor both in private practice and with various organisations, including schools and charities for several years. In this time I have supervised both students and qualified counsellors.
As a supervisor my aim is to provide you (my supervisee) with emotional support in a confidential environment where you can talk about your client work without feeling judged. Together we work together to establish an honest and genuine relationship where both parties are able to voice opinions without becoming defensive, whilst giving and accepting honest feedback. This may involve assisting you in looking at your thoughts, feelings and responses to individual clients and distinguishing between those that come from your own personal material and those which are called up by the client. Whilst observing at all times the protection and confidentiality of the client and being mindful that the client is also the central component of the process.
As a supervisor I embrace the three main roles of supervision which are :
- educational, working towards best practice:
- monitoring which focuses on the ‘quality of the work, including ethical practice and anti discriminatory practice’.
- Supportive role where the counsellor can ‘discharge emotional responses to work’.
Please feel free to ring me to if you would like discuss things further or have any questions or queries.
